Your comprehensive exam includes x-rays of your teeth. We use Dexis Digital x-ray system. Digital x-rays use a sensor to capture the image and store digital images of your teeth and surrounding structures. The radiation exposure of digital x-rays is significantly less than previous methods. X-rays are an integral part of your exam and treatment plan. How often x-rays are taken will vary according to dental history, symptoms, age and periodontal health. We are conservative with x-rays and try to be respectful of concerns about radiation, but it is an important and irreplaceable part of your treatment.
Digital x-rays may reveal:
- Bone loss.
- Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors.
- Decay between the teeth.
- Developmental abnormalities.
- Poor tooth and root positions.
- Problems inside a tooth or below the gum line.
Detecting and treating dental problems at an early stage may save you time, money, and unnecessary discomfort.
